ONE MILLION SOUTH AFRICAN CHILDREN QUIT SCHOOL EVERY YEAR
WITHOUT QUALIFICATION, SKILL OR EMPLOYMENT

SA Centre Education Policy Development Jan 2010

Two thirds (100,000) Western Cape students leave school before their final year;

80% crime committed by under 19-year-olds; - 90% crime drug-related;

One in Three Western Cape girls is pregnant before19-years.

Youth unemployment off page;

Cape Town crystal meth (TIK) capital of world with 300,000 youth addicted;

200 rapes reported weekly in Cape Town – total estimated over 1,000; 50% rapes under 16 years.

Against these horrific statistics  Prompt Logo 2 - Copy (PROfessional Music, Performance and Technology) aim to launch their previously piloted, successful training for youth in Cape Town, to create work in over 100 career streams in the global music industry.

But we NEED help to:

GIVE MUSIC BACK TO AFRICA       DONATE FOR DEVELOPMENT        TURN TALENT INTO CAREERS

This is NOT an academic or cultural music process. Prompt Logo 2 - Copy is firmly grounded in helping provide economic and social development for careers while developing creativity that can find root in many different futures. The two-year, full time programme including Life Skills, OHS, IT, Music Business (from copyright to contracts) as well as music, movement and stage presentation, song writing, ensemble, sound technology and more.

Youth are encouraged to develop new sounds and songs, identifying with the rich indigenous culture of the region while appealing to the global marketplace. Borrowing from the past, modelling and creating in the present for economic and social development and benefits in the future – rather than copying the styles and genres of global music-industry leaders. Non-academic youth often excel creatively. Not so much teaching music as helping youth develop it, while preparing them for a worthwhile future.

Youth aren’t accepted because, or in spite, of their disadvantage – but because of their perceived potential and determination to succeed. They will show a common thread: a passion, desire, ability and potential towards uplifting themselves, to develop into people of worth to themselves and society.
